This is probably the most exciting news I have had to share in quite a while. Back in November, I was contacted by Paige to be a guest designer for American Crafts. You should have seen me. Standing in waiting in line with Ryan waiting to buy myself an Xbox One to play along with Ryan. I was quite literally bouncing up and down speechless. Ryan was repeatedly asking what was wrong, and all I could muster was shoving the iPad into his hands for him to read for himself. If you haven't noticed so far, American Crafts is my most used, most loved scrapbooking brand. I have absolutely loved every single Dear Lizzy collection. I have purchased every single one, some in multiples. So of course my reply was a resounding YES!!! When my box o'goodies arrived I didn't waste any time. It was actually a good boost for my mojo, exactly what I needed.
So my assignment was to create 3 layouts, a card, and a mini using at least 10 patterned papers each. The hardest part for me was deciding exactly what I wanted to create. Suddenly I had a ton of ideas and I really had to decide which would work best for the supplies I received. There was so much lovely paper that the 10 patterned papers part of the assignment was a BREEZE!
I love using patterned paper. It is my absolute favorite part of any collection. There's so much you can do with just a single sheet of paper. Seriously.
The first layout I created was InstaYear 2014. Which is a basic grid layout using a ton of the Shimelle collection with some Dear Lizzy Serendipity and Amy Tangerine Stitched for embellishing.

Next I made At 6 Yrs. I used a Silhouette cut file, found here Design ID #53789 for the background and backed it with some of my favorite papers, then backed the whole thing with a sheet of woodgrain patterned paper from the Shimelle collection.
The last layout I made for my assignment was Oh So Lovely. The flowers are from the Silhouette Store Design ID #53632. For this one I was really intentional about the patterns I chose. Before I even started I sorted them out in the colors because I knew that I wanted each flower to be its own color. Then I chose 3 colors I love, aqua, yellow, pink, and green. There weren't many green patterns available in similar colors, so I chose 2 that worked well together and use those for the leaves, the rest I just picked patterns that I felt like mixed well and created the three different color flowers.
When I create cards using patterned paper I like to keep it simple because using lots of patterns on such a small surface can become overwhelming quickly. For this card, I made a background out of scraps from my layouts and the sentiment comes from a cut apart paper in the Amy Tangerine Stitched collection.
My last project for the guest design assignment was a little mini album. I absolutely love food. I'm kind of picky, but when I like something I really like it. So I made a mini all about the foods I love from the places Ryan and I visit most often.
Thanks for stopping by, for an entire supply list and to see my tips for each project head over to the American Crafts blog post. I am so happy I had a chance to design for a company whose products I love oh so much, it was a blast.
